| Frequently Asked Questions
Woodburning or solid fuel? Wood is better in environmental terms as the amount of carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere is approximately the same as that aborbed by the tree during growth. It is a renewable source, particularly when derived from plantations and cultivated woodlands. For optimum results we recommend logs are seasoned for 2 years to achieve a moisture content of less than 20%.
Multi-fuel stoves offer greater flexibilty in the choice of fuels you can burn, including; wood, coal, peat and anthracite. Multi-fuel stoves have a riddling grate which allows ash to be riddled into an ashpan to create the optimum conditions for effective combustion.
How do I get my stove installed? Installation must be carried out by a HETAS-approved or similarly qualified engineer and must be in accordance with Building Regulations. This is very important because the condition of your chimney will determine how well your stove performs. Any existing flue must be swept and inspected before installation of a stove. You can find a list on registered installers on the HETAS website (www.hetas.co.uk).
What is HETAS? HETAS is the official body recognised by the government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services. Its work in approving products covers; boilers, cookers, open fires, stoves and room heaters. Established in 1936, HETAS Ltd is the official testing and approval body for the domestic solid fuel industry. |
